Photoacoustic molecular spectroscopy and chemical characterization

چکیده
Applications of photoacousticlphotothermal (PAIFT) detection to molecular spectroscopy are reviewed with special emphasis on the use of step-scan Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) PA spectroscopy for chemical analysis and for spectral depth profiling of laminar and other heterogeneous materials, particularly by use of the phase of the PA signal. Examples are drawn from recent work in our laboratory, as well as from the work of others, as appropriate.

Fourier transform infrared photoacoustic spectroscopy as a potential tool in assessing the role of diet in cuticular chemical composition of Ectatomma brunneum.
The cuticular chemical composition plays a significant role in the recognition of nest mates in social insects, thus functioning as a chemical signature of the colony. The structure of cuticular chemicals is subject to interference from genetic and exogenous factors, including diet. In this study, various colonies of the Ectatomma brunneum ant were removed from their natural environment and hou...
متن کاملPhotoacoustic Spectroscopy for Chemical Detection
The Global War on Terror has made rapid detection and identification of chemical and biological agents a priority for Military and Homeland Defense applications. Reliable real-time detection of these threats is complicated by our enemy’s use of a diverse range of materials. Therefore, an adaptable platform is necessary. Photoacoustic spectroscopy (PAS) is a useful monitoring technique that is w...
متن کاملOpto-nanomechanical spectroscopic material characterization.
The non-destructive, simultaneous chemical and physical characterization of materials at the nanoscale is an essential and highly sought-after capability. However, a combination of limitations imposed by Abbe diffraction, diffuse scattering, unknown subsurface, electromagnetic fluctuations and Brownian noise, for example, have made achieving this goal challenging. Here, we report a hybrid appro...
متن کاملShining Light on the Dark Side of Imaging: Excited State Absorption Enhancement of a Bis-styryl BODIPY Photoacoustic Contrast Agent
A first approach toward understanding the targeted design of molecular photoacoustic contrast agents (MPACs) is presented. Optical and photoacoustic Z-scan spectroscopy was used to identify how nonlinear (excited-state) absorption contributes to enhancing the photoacoustic emission of the curcuminBF2 and bis-styryl (MeOPh)2BODIPY dyes relative to Cy3.
متن کاملQuantification of the chemical composition variations of tumors in photothermal therapy by photoacoustic spectroscopy: an in vitro study.
In this study, the change of tumors' chemical composition in the temperature range of 20 ~70 °C is quantified for photothermal tumor therapy by photoacoustic spectroscopy (PAS) with the wavelengths of 700~1000 nm. Based on the measured photoacoustic signals, two absorption peaks at the wavelengths of 750 nm and 950 nm are identified. It is also observed that high temperature (>55 °C) is able to...
